(Part-time, 50% FTE position)
Summary: HESI is pleased to announce an opening for a remote, salary-exempt, part-time project manager for an ongoing protein allergenicity database project. The position provides an opportunity to collaborate with leading scientists in allergy, immunology, and agricultural safety assessment from around the world.
Location: The position is offered as a remote role, although some on-site visits to meet with project partners in the Washington, DC area may be required. For candidates who are not local to the DC area, funding for travel will be provided if on-site attendance is required. While the candidate will have the ability to work in a remote setting with a considerable degree of independence, the candidate must agree to remain in compliance with social distancing and other COVID-19 related guidance from federal, state, and local officials.
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities: Ideal candidates hold a Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent with a background in a relevant science-related field and will possess experience in agricultural product registration (for genetically modified crops), molecular biology, and project management. Expertise in allergy/immunology is preferred but not required, as is a general understanding of bioinformatics for protein analysis (familiarity with NCBI & UniProt protein databases; sequence comparisons; BLASTS). Experience in managing databases is a plus but not mandatory.
This position requires strong attention to detail and timelines, excellent scientific skills, strong communication skills, and the ability to work with multiple collaborators. Working hours can be flexible on a day to day basis, although project deadlines will be clearly defined and inflexible. Candidates must organize work projects and complete tasks within assigned timeframes, and maintain a high degree of accuracy in all aspects of work.
