The mission of the committee is to develop a tiered approach for the ecological risk assessment of substances of Unknown or Variable composition, Complex reaction products or Biological materials (UVCBs) and Multi-Constituents Substances (MCS).

Call for Stakeholders

HESI’s UVCB/MCS Committee is currently developing an exposure-based, tiered ecological risk assessment approach for these substances?

We are presently looking for stakeholders of all sectors to join us in fulfilling this challenging mission.

Working Groups

  • Tier 0 Database Development

    A small sub-group was created to discuss the creation of a database of exposure and characterization information that would be readily available to risk assessors. This information would be crude, Tier 0 information, and would be used for an initial screening of UVCB substances.

  • UVCB Complexity Evaluation

    The group worked on the development of a UVCB complexity evaluation scheme that, once finalized, will be integrated to the risk assessment framework to help screen substances early into their assessment. This framework would rely on Tier 0 data.

  • Workshop Organization

    This workgroup will focus on the organization of a face-to-face workshop in the early fall of 2023. This workshop will be open to participants outside of HESI’s UVCB committee, and will be an opportunity to share knowledge in the UVCB risk assessment space.
