Society of Toxicology Meeting 2023
March 19, 2023 – March 23, 2023
Nashville, TN, USA
The mission of the committee is to establish a map supporting the development of fit-for-purpose safety evaluation for agrochemicals that is applicable to changing global, as well as local, needs for evaluation and regulatory decisions that can incorporate relevant evolving science inputs. See the full project map landscape here.
Regulatory agencies from Australia, Canada, Europe, and the US assessed the use of various test guidelines in the context of agrochemical safety assessment to inform the frequency of use of various guidelines. The goal was to better understand why some tests are used more than others, what valuable information is obtained from these tests, and whether some of the most routinely used data could be obtained using new methods.
Based on problem formulation and problem exploration exercises conducted in 2021, a conceptual model was developed. The model is being used as a guide to the project to help prioritize the work.
A sub-team worked on a manuscript describing the needs for a project like TEA, as well as expected outcomes. The manuscript was published in August 2022.
A new manuscript featuring the project’s conceptual model was initiated. The goal of this paper is to highlight similarities among regulatory jurisdictions, in the way they assess the safety of agrochemicals.
A survey was developed and deployed among industry members to inform what NAMs are typically used for R&D as well as product registration, and with what frequency.
This initiative is a joint collaborative project between the HESI PBPK and TEA Committees that is aimed at evaluating the utility of the 90d dog study (OECD TG 409, OPPTS 870.3150) for agrochemical safety evaluation. The project builds on recent international work in this space and strives to identify under what conditions this study is needed to inform human health risk assessment of agrochemicals, with the ultimate goal of identifying conditions where the test can be safely waived within a weight of evidence approach.
