The focus of this workshop was to bring together scientists from industry, academia, and government to discuss what is currently known regarding the biological variation encountered in non-transgenic crops. The goal was to discuss the genetic and phenotypic variability observed in plants within the context of assessing the safety of food crops. Discussion topics included specific focus areas in the molecular, protein, and metabolic sciences, and technical presentations as well as presentations and discussion on data handling and interpretation. A goal was to also include a roundtable discussion as part of the workshop. The PATC has a strong history of publishing its workshop proceedings in peer-reviewed journals, and it is expected that individual presentations will be published in addition to an executive summary to highlight areas of consensus.
