The Cardiac Safety Steering Team is proud to present the first webinar series featuring the 2023 Early Career Seminar Series Awardees.  This competitive award is given to postdoctoral or early career scientists who have compelling research related to cardiovascular safety and risk assessment.

Three awardees were selected for the 2023 Seminar Series:

  • Loukia Yiangou, Leiden University Medical Center (April 28th @10am EDT)
  • Louise Hesketh, King's College London (May 19th @10am EDT)
  • Catherine Garrison, BMS (TBD)

Human pluripotent stem cell models and their use in cardiac disease modeling, cardiotoxicity and drug screening

Bio: Dr Loukia Yiangou undertook her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of Bristol, UK. After graduating in 2013, she was awarded a Wellcome PhD Studentship at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute, UK. During her PhD she was under the supervision of Prof. Ludovic Vallier and Dr. Sanjay Sinha where she investigated the role of cell cycle regulators in mesoderm specification, uncovering novel mechanisms of this process. Following the completion of her PhD , she joined the groups of Prof. Christine Mummery and Dr. Richard Davis as a postdoc. The focus of her research is using human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived 2D and 3D models to study cardiac drug safety, model cardiac disease and uncover novel therapeutic targets.
