Talk Title: Leveraging a high-throughput optimized hiPSC-derived cardiomyocyte platform to model disease and cardiac safety.

Speaker: Dr. K. Ashley Fetterman, AbbVie

K. Ashley Fetterman is a scientist in the Genomics Research Center at AbbVie where she is developing novel human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) models to investigate drug-induced toxicity and improve patient safety. After earning a B.A. at Mount Holyoke College in Biological Sciences, Dr. Fetterman began her career in drug development at NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals, an antibiotic drug discovery biotech. Wanting to broaden her experience across the drug development pipeline, Dr. Fetterman transitioned into neuromuscular clinical research at Massachusetts General Hospital and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she focused on clinical trial design and regulatory affairs. Dr. Fetterman pursued her Ph.D. at Northwestern University in the Department of Pharmacology where she combined her experimental and clinical experiences to lead translational research projects. She established and optimized high-throughput assays for calcium imaging, contractility, and electrophysiological studies to enhance hiPSC-cardiomyocyte maturation status and to model cardiotoxicity and cardiac disease. Through her work in drug discovery, clinical, and translational research, she has grown a passion to bring safer, more effective treatments to patients.
